How to Create a Professional Product Demo with Highlight Studio
Learn how to record, edit, and export a polished product demo using Highlight Studio's screen recording and editing tools.
Why Product Demos Matter
A great product demo can make or break a sale. Whether you are pitching to investors, onboarding new users, or showcasing a feature update, a polished screen recording speaks louder than a wall of text. Highlight Studio makes it easy to go from raw screen capture to a professional, branded video in minutes.
Step 1: Record Your Screen
Open Highlight Studio and choose your recording source. For a product demo, you will typically want to record a specific window of your app rather than the full screen. This keeps the focus on your product and avoids showing desktop clutter.
Before you hit record:
- Enable Hide Desktop Icons for a cleaner look if recording full screen.
- Select your microphone if you plan to narrate as you go.
- Optionally enable the camera overlay to add a personal face cam to your demo.
Walk through your product naturally. Click through the key features you want to showcase. Do not worry about mistakes - you can edit everything later.
Step 2: Trim the Fat
Once your recording is in the editor, use the timeline to remove unnecessary parts:
- Move the playhead to where you want to cut and press Cmd+B to split the clip.
- Select the unwanted section and press Shift+Delete for a ripple delete that closes the gap automatically.
- Use speed effects to fast-forward through setup steps or loading screens that slow down the demo.
Step 3: Add Zoom Effects
This is where Highlight Studio really shines. Zoom effects draw the viewer's eye to the exact part of the screen you are talking about.
Highlight Studio automatically suggests zoom points based on where you clicked during recording. Accept the ones that make sense, dismiss the rest, and add manual zoom regions where needed. Adjust the ease in, hold, and ease out timing for smooth, natural-feeling animations.
Step 4: Brand Your Demo
A branded demo looks professional and builds trust. Use the Brand Kit to:
- Add your company logo as a watermark in one of the four corners.
- Set a branded intro with your company name and tagline on a gradient background.
- Add an outro with a call to action, like visiting your website or signing up for a trial.
Step 5: Add Subtitles
Many viewers watch videos on mute. Click Transcribe in the subtitles panel to auto-generate captions from your narration. Review and edit the text, then style the subtitles to match your brand colors.
Step 6: Export and Share
Press Cmd+E to open export settings. For product demos shared on the web, High (1080p) is usually the sweet spot between quality and file size. For presentations on large screens, go with Ultra (1440p) or Source resolution.
Your polished product demo is ready to share with the world.
