Proxy Video and Preview Performance

Proxy Video and Preview Performance

Highlight Studio uses proxy video to keep the editor smooth and responsive, even with large, high-resolution recordings.

What Is Proxy Video?

A proxy is a lower-resolution copy of your recording (480p) that the editor uses for preview playback. This dramatically reduces the processing power needed to scrub through the timeline, play back effects, and edit in real time.

How It Works

  • When you open a recording, Highlight Studio automatically generates a 480p proxy in the background.
  • A progress indicator shows proxy generation status.
  • Once generated, the editor switches to using the proxy for preview playback.
  • The original full-resolution video is always used for the final export — proxy is only for editing.

Proxy Controls

  • Toggle proxy — Switch between proxy and full-resolution preview in the editor settings.
  • Regenerate proxy — If the proxy becomes outdated or corrupted, you can regenerate it.

Playback Rate

The editor also supports adjustable playback rates from 0.5x to 2.0x, useful for reviewing content at different speeds without creating permanent speed effects.
