Navigating the Editor
The Highlight Studio editor is divided into several key areas that you will use throughout your editing workflow.
Video Preview
The central area of the editor displays a live preview of your video. You can see your recording with all applied effects, annotations, and overlays in real time as you edit. Use the playback controls or press Space to play and pause.
Timeline Panel
Located at the bottom of the editor, the timeline shows all your tracks:
- Main video track with thumbnail strips
- Audio waveform track showing audio levels visually
- Camera track for face cam overlay clips (when available)
- Media tracks for imported audio and video files
- Effect indicators for zoom, speed, and annotation regions
The timeline includes a time ruler, playhead indicator, and supports zooming in and out for precise editing.
Inspector Panel
The right-side inspector panel contains settings tabs for the currently selected element. Depending on what you have selected, you will see options for clip properties, effects, styling, and more. Toggle it with Cmd+I.
Toolbar
The top toolbar provides quick access to common actions like splitting clips, adding annotations, toggling panels, and opening export settings.
