Auto-Blur Password Fields (Beta)
Auto-Blur Password Fields
Highlight Studio can automatically detect password input fields on screen during recording and add blur annotations over them in the final video. This protects sensitive information without any manual editing.
How It Works
- Before recording, enable Auto-Blur Passwords in the Privacy section of the recording setup sheet
- During recording, Highlight Studio uses macOS Accessibility APIs to detect when a password field (secure text field) is focused
- The position and timing of each password field appearance is recorded
- When the recording finishes, blur annotations are automatically created at the correct positions and time ranges
Requirements
- Accessibility permission must be granted in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Accessibility
- Only available in the direct download (non-Mac App Store) version — the macOS sandbox prevents cross-app accessibility queries
- Works with native macOS apps that expose
AXSecureTextFieldelements - Browser support includes Safari, Chrome, and Firefox password fields
After Recording
The auto-generated blur annotations appear on your timeline just like manually-added blur shapes. You can:
- Adjust their position, size, and timing
- Change the blur radius in the annotation settings
- Delete them if they are not needed
Note: This feature is currently in Beta. Detection accuracy may vary depending on the application being recorded.
