Clip-Based Editing

Clip-Based Editing

Highlight Studio uses a clip-based, non-linear editing system. Your recording is divided into clips that you can split, rearrange, and delete to build your final video.

Splitting Clips

To split a clip at the current playhead position:

  • Press Cmd+B or S on your keyboard.
  • The clip will be divided into two separate clips at the playhead.
  • You can then delete, move, or modify each clip independently.

Deleting Clips

  • Delete - Removes the selected clip, leaving a gap in the timeline.
  • Shift+Delete - Performs a ripple delete, removing the clip and closing the gap so subsequent clips shift earlier.

Clip Properties

Each clip has individual properties you can adjust in the inspector:

  • Speed - Change the playback speed of a clip for slow-motion or time-lapse effects.
  • Enabled/Disabled - Toggle a clip on or off without deleting it.
  • Freeze Frame - Pause the video on a specific frame while audio continues playing. Useful for emphasizing a moment.
