Canvas Zoom vs Video Zoom

What is Zoom Target?

When you add a zoom region to your timeline, you can now choose a Zoom Target that controls what gets zoomed:

Video — Zooms into the video content only. The background and padding remain fixed.

Canvas — Zooms the entire canvas including the video, background, padding, and all overlays as a single unit.

Video Zoom (Default)

Video zoom is the default mode and works best for most use cases. It zooms into the recorded screen content while keeping your styled background and padding visible. This is ideal for:

Drawing attention to a specific part of your screen recording

Highlighting code, UI elements, or text

Keeping the overall frame composition intact while focusing on detail

Canvas Zoom

Canvas zoom scales the entire frame — video, background, camera overlay, annotations, and all other elements zoom together. This creates a more cinematic feel, similar to a physical camera moving closer. Use canvas zoom when:

You want the background to zoom in with the video for an immersive effect

Your recording uses padding and you want the zoom to feel like the whole scene is moving

You want overlays like the camera bubble and annotations to scale along with the zoom

How to Set Zoom Target

Select a zoom region on the timeline, or add a new one from the Zoom settings panel.

In the zoom region settings, find the Zoom Target control below the Zoom Level slider.

Choose Video or Canvas using the segmented picker.

Preview the effect in the editor. The exported video will match what you see.

Tips

You can mix both modes in the same project — each zoom region has its own target setting.

Canvas zoom works with all easing curves and phase timing settings.

The focus point (X/Y position) controls where the zoom centers, regardless of which mode you choose.

Frame grabs also respect the zoom target, so screenshots will match your preview.
